Wednesday 15 October, 2008Girls scoot through Singapore for sex poll

Starting Valentine's Day, a bevy of young women will mount their bright red Vespa scooters and head into the heartland to survey the sex habits of some 5,000 residents of Singapore.

These sexual health investigators will take a year to gather information about Singaporeans' attitudes toward sex, the quality of their sex lives, and their views on such matters as unprotected sex.

The investigators will report their findings to Dr. Wei Siang Yu, who has been called Singapore's resident sex guru. Dr. Wei believes that, since most surveys have been conducted online, via the Internet, their results are skewed toward techno-savvy white-collar workers and guys looking for a free packet of condoms. Instead, he wants to assemble a truer picture of Singapore. So the scooter brigade will head for the shopping malls, coffee shops, and local markets.

Dr. Wei wants to use his findings to help people deal with their sex problems. He also hopes that his survey will encourage government agencies to cooperate in conducting more in-depth studies.

Of course, survey participants will also be taped for the coming season of "Love Airways," a sex education/entertainment show for television.
